I have booked a week off work, and have decided to make music. More than that,I have decided that I’m going to play the guitar every day, and try to see if I could kick-start my songwriting. I wrote a couple of songs April 2011, but otherwise I’ve not been able to write anything for a couple of years now.
Well the songwriting is going really well so far – 3 songs in 3 days. My singing is bit crap as I’ve got a bad throat, but these are proper songs with middle-rights and everything.
I’m feeling quite positive about my music now. I nearly posted a rough movie of me singing one of the songs, but it really is a bit too rough for public consumption. And the singing is a bit wobbly in places.
It’s a confidence thing, I think: The more I write, the more confident I am in writing, so the easier it is to write… etc. Let’s see how long I can keep that feedback loop going.
Good work that man. You’ll have to post some kind of version up so we can hear them. How do you go about lyrics ? – I have no idea when it comes to lyrics, I always think they sound like a 5 year old wrote them. Generally, does music come first ? or words ? or either ? I’ve got a song start sheet ( several actually ) that list title ideas, theme ideas and lyrics line ideas, but they are all just little bits. I could throw you some over to see what you think if you’d be up for that ??
i tend to have the start of some chords, then play them over and over until i get a vague idea for a tune, then the tune and the words tend to come together, can take nearly an hour until i have anything to work with.
sometimes the words go down a dead end and i have to bin the words/tune and start again, song i did tuesday i pretty much 3 times.
at the moment i have bad throat – tonsils and all that – so my singing is not good enough to inflict on the poor internet. but i will be recording these hopefully by the weekend, i should have almost an album worth by then (fingers crossed).
I’d say if i get 8 songs done, 1 will be good, 4 will be not bad, and 3 a bit poor. but until i write them, i don’t know which is which.
See I do have a loop that plays over and over, but then I get stuck and usually can’t “hear” past that loop. I guess I need to do more work on learning some known chord progressions that work…..
Just lobbed you over a mail to your online place.
got it, ta
