Re-installing Windows, and more

image

Finally got a ‘new’ Sata drive for the PC carcass I was given, so the job now it’s to try and transfer everything across from the old machine without losing anything
important. Not sure how well it’s going to work. Also wondering if I should have saved to get a brand new and larger hard drive that I can fit everything on.

I’ve started getting errors, not sure if the graphic card is playing up, the second hand hard-drive is faulty, or I somehow damaged the CPU. All are possible. Our maybe I should break with tradition and buy a computer instead of building it from scavenged bits and bobs…

Yeah…I got fed up of all the errors, and my laptop coming to a grinding halt evey time I asked it to show me a mail, or visit a web page. I got so fed up, I went and forked out for a Mac. Touch wood ( he says tapping his head ) it’s worked out well so far. Everything fires up almost instantly – mail, photo editor, video editor, stuff just seems to work. Even my printer, which is in the far reaches of the house, always prints things when asked – that NEVER used to happen with my laptop. I don’t think I’ll be going back to Windows any time soon……

    • This isn’t an error as such, with the machine just trying to get it up and running. I was given some bits, and others I got cheap. And I’m re-using my XP from the PC I’m using now (which had been causing the problems). If I had a few hundred I’d buy a new one, but I like the challenge of getting a machine on its feet for about £30 🙂 (you can’t do that with Apple stuff!)

      Which Mac did you get?

certainly can’t do that with apple stuff……I got myself a pretty fully loaded iMac. My wallet spent several months in hospital recovering…..

    • i bet it did! the most I’d ever think of spending would be about £500 which would get me a decent Dell. Might do that in a year. I’ve got probably thousands of pounds worth of software, not going jumping OS at this stage!

HAHA – I laugh at your £500 – in fact no, maybe I’m crying…. suffice to say I’ve bought cars with less money than I paid for the iMac. I mainly got suckered as my ex-boss has one and he says it runs as quick now as the day he bought it, over 4 years ago. And it is quick. Things are just instantly there….

    …and you only need one kidney….right ?? 😉

  4. Interesting world, cyberspace…
