I like this style of music, melodic studio rock I suppose you might call it. I know it’s not to everyone’s taste, probably the only people listening to this music is white males over 35, who also own quite a few Steely Dan records. This music doesn’t really rock that hard -it doesn’t try to- although it does have proper tunes.
The Silver Seas do this sort of thing very well, tightly-focused bittersweet songs of heartbreak, etc, often with a girl’s name in the title.
They remind me a bit of Pernice Brothers, and I can sometimes hear bits that sounds like Richard Hawley. Yes, these guys can be a bit retro. There is a definite 70s vibe to the album, but it’s the good 70s stuff, filtered through a 21st century mindset.
