'Bostal Boy'
At the moment I’m reading ‘Borstal Boy’ by Brendan Behan. I got this a year or so ago when The Independent ran the ‘Banned Books’ promotion, and have only just now got around to reading it (and I’ve over a dozen more of these hardbacks to read, it’s going to be a booktastic summer…)
Considering the 16 year old Behan was in borstal for his involvement in an IRA plan to blow up a British warship, he comes across pretty well. I wonder how he’d come across if he’d been inside for assault or rape or armed robbery? Anyway, it’s really quite funny, and well-written too.
